Zach’s Ceremony

“In Sydney they call me a blackfella, in Doomadgee they call me a whitefella. I don’t know who I am.” Raised a city kid, Zach is caught between the modern world and his ancient culture. This documentary follows his journey to be initiated as a proud Aboriginal man. Shot over six years, we meet Zach at age 10, when his staunch but loving father begins to prepare him for his initiation ceremony. As he enters his teen years, temptations, racism and painful memories of his parents’ divorce threaten to derail him. Zach must find a way to reconnect with his culture and find his inner warrior if he is to find a way to be himself.
